Overall signature

Fortunately, power came with control, and like the Q6, the K7 retains the same transparent sound signature I became found of. No artificial warmth, no bloated bass, just a clean slate for your headphone, or power amp if you were to use it on sets like the V3 Mono. I did some comparisons between the UAC 1.0 and UAC 2.0 settings, and couldn’t really grasp the difference, but you might hear a step-down going for Bluetooth.

During, my test I almost always felt the soundstage becoming narrower one connected in bluetooth, even with apt-X HD sources.

On the other hand, fed by my computer and Apple Music, listening to Cosmogonie from l’Imperatrice, I was immediately struck by how good of a job the DAC did at separating elements while never getting too clinical. In a direct A/B against the Fosi Audio Q6, the K7 felt every bit as detailed, but with a touch more smoothness in the upper mids, but a little less control on the higher frequency range, especially on brighter tracks or with metal-dome tweeters like on the LS50 Wireless.

Midrange remains the star here: voices being clear and vibrant, neither pushed forward nor lost in the mix. On Candle Flame by Jungle, Fosi once more showcased its talent for groove, with precise rhythmic drive and solid stereo imaging, the K7 displaying a wide soundstage, with excellent depth control, never appearing artificially stretched.

For electro lover like me, this gives a pleasing sense of width, especially with well-recorded material where electronic tracks gain air, perfectly transcribing the delay/reverb effect you get in techno club.

And once more, the K7 truly surprised me in the low-end department — especially for electronic music. Thanks to its very neutral baseline and excellent control down low, the DAC/Amp delivered deep sub-bass extension, but never exaggerated the low-mids, allowing kick drums to hit with authority without bleeding into that same mids.

Even at higher volumes, the bass remained composed and tight, giving tracks like Supernova – Samaran a very solid sense of punch and rhythm, exactly the kind of energy you want when running long listening sessions like I do. Excellent!

Out of curiosity, I tried the K7 in a gaming stack, with my Xbox Series X as a source and the Shanling HW600 as the headset. Maybe not your typical setup, most gamers going for closed-back headphones like the Audeze Maxwell, but I do prefer to hear my surroundings when I play – you never know if work call during your play! The result? Exceptional at this price-range.

Some games even gave me the opportunity to try Dolby Atmos presets – you’ll have to pay for the license though – and if not always perfect, when it worked, it was almost mind-blowing and, more than once, I found myself pausing the game just to enjoy the ambiance – especially in games like Red Dead Redemption 2 – even if I.

Again, the Shanling HW600 paired wonderfully here, taking full advantage of the K7’s neutrality to deliver both punchy explosions and soft ambient textures without breaking a sweat.

What really caught me off guard was the sheer level of precision. Positional cues felt dead-on: footsteps, ambient noises, dialogues—all landed exactly where they should, creating a very natural sense of space without feeling artificially widened.

The K7 handled layering with ease, keeping every sound distinct, even in busy action scenes where most entry-level DAC/Amps would usually start to blur everything together.

Noise floor? Nothing to report despite conservative numbers. Even with my most revealing headphone, I couldn’t spot any background hiss or digital glare, and the K7 played nicely with both solid-state and tube preamps. No USB gremlins, no ground loops, just music.

A great device through and through.

Tonality

Highs: transparent and clean. Contrary to the Q6, the K7 shows no subtle lift in the upper mids and treble. Yet, typical of the AKM DAC family the DAC gives a superb sense of clarity without tipping over into harshness or sibilance—even with bright headphones like the FiiO FT1 Pro. I pushed the volume with some harsh tracks, and never ran into any fatigue or glare; everything stayed smooth and controlled. Good job Fosi!

Test track : Well Balanced – Jumpstreet

Mids: open and linear, as usual. Vocals and acoustic tracks were an easy job for the K7, even more once paired with a good amp. Fosi has always nailed this part and the DAC makes no exception. The sound stage is wide and voices glided easily, especially paired with the Waterfall and their Atohm speakers, as the two devices seemed to pair really, really, well.

Test track : The weight of Missing – Aurora

Bass: clean, punchy. Fosi is just flexing here, but truth be told, I still prefer the THX-AAA which go even deeper in this sonic range. That said, even on low gain, the K7 offered an impressive level of refinement and while listening at Paris Madness from Samaran the DAC/Amp achieved an impeccable performance, even more when paired with the HW600.

Test track : Whale Song – Alan Mor

Noise and power

Noise: nothing to say, it’s dead silent, and my hypersensitive Onkyo could not spot anything, even with Bluetooth turned on. Of course, the higher the gain, the higher the noise, but I couldn’t discern more than a faint, faint, breeze when put in turbo mode. EMI shielding did a great job and I never encountered any parasites or any real buzz during my listening.

Power: Fosi only provides two different levels of gain for its DAC/Amp, but during my test, low was powerful enough to properly drive my DT900 Pro-X, and this level remained the one I used for 90% of my headphones, in 4.4mm.

Conclusion

With the Fosi Audio K7, the brand definitely won me over, proving that Chi-Fi can still surprise me – in all the right ways – even after all these years.

Geeky, mighty, and genuinely versatile, this little DAC/Amp handled everything I threw at it, both sonically and technically, bridging the gap between my gaming setup, my audiophile cravings, and even my daily work rig. The wealth of inputs, the flat tuning, the solid amplification stage, everything just clicked.

And, whether you’re running sensitive IEMs, full-size planars, or even a preamp for your speakers, I’m quite sure the K7 will deliver every single time without missing a beat.

Sure, there are even more refined solutions out there, but very few offer this kind of flexibility, fun factor, and raw performance at such an accessible price point. For anyone looking for an all-in-one desktop solution that doesn’t compromise — or simply for fellow geeks who enjoy having plenty of toys to play with — the Fosi K7 is easily one of my personal favorites in 2025.

A nerdy guy with a passion for audio and gadgets, he likes to combine his DAC and his swiss knife. Even after more than 10 years of experience, Nanotechnos still collects all gear he gets, even his first MPMAN MP3 player. He likes spreadsheets, technical specs and all this amazing(ly boring) numbers. But most of all, he loves music: electro, classical, dubstep, Debussy : the daily playlist.

How did you connect the Fosi Audio K7 to the XBox series X?

It’s so weird how this review seems to conspicuously avoid ever mentioning the Bluetooth antenna. When describing the connections on the back “from right to left”, the antenna connector just gets skipped right over. And then the list of “what’s in the box” on the next page leaves it off the list, despite the fact that we can SEE it laying next to the USB cable in the photo just beneath!

(Er, yes, I of course meant “from left to right”.)
